Possible long u

Old Turkic script suggests the "u" can actually be long, otherwise it should have been written 𐰉𐰆𐰴𐰀. Same exampe also exists in 𐰸𐰆𐰪 (qōń, “sheep”) rather than 𐰴𐰆𐰪 (qoń). Where /𐰸/ is /uq/, /oq/, /qo/, /qu/ but 𐰴 is just /q/. There is also absurd amount of voicing which should not have happened in most languages maybe apart from Oghuz. But in this case Turkmen does not preserve a long u and Karakhanid also seems to have short vowel so it is confusing. --Anylai (talk) 11:59, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Tuvan also has a low tone/glottalization, (usually reflecting a short vowels for those unfamiliar). Perhaps the voicing was influenced by Mongolian буга (buga), Khakas at least seems to have merged the two meanings into one word. Crom daba (talk) 12:27, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
