@Rua, Victar Hi Rua, Victar was wondering whether the ON term is a loan from some West-Germanic language or whether it should be on a Proto-Germanic entry. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 18:10, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

For the record, I am also curious what the ON is doing here. Clearly it can't be a regular descendant, it has to either go to the PGmc or be marked as a borrowing from somewhere. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 10:18, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
The forms appear to have originally been listed on *hanhaz. —Rua (mew) 10:36, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Rua: But what is the Old Norse doing on this PWGmc entry? — Mnemosientje (t · c) 11:23, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't have the slightest idea why I put it here. —Rua (mew) 11:26, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Rua: Could you fix up the entry? --{{victar|talk}} 19:06, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't really know where the ON form should go. Do we know if it's inherited or loaned? —Rua (mew) 19:08, 29 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
OK, PG entry created. --{{victar|talk}} 02:10, 30 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Victar We also have Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/hanhasenawō besides the one just created. Should it go? — Mnemosientje (t · c) 08:23, 30 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ugh, why wasn't that linked... --{{victar|talk}} 16:49, 30 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Rua, so is ON hásin a MLG borrowing? --{{victar|talk}} 17:37, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Why RFV this just to ask a question about the ON term? The PWGmc clearly existed and thus merits an entry, even if the word may have been formed in PGmc already. Just ping Rua on the talk page instead. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 17:53, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Mnemosientje: If thought it should be deleted, I would have sent it to RFD. --{{victar|talk}} 17:56, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
That doesn't seem like a good way to use RFV. RFV is not to ask questions about etymologies, that's what WT:ES is for. If you RFV a term and nobody answers, it will actually get deleted; the purpose of RFV is to prune entries that shouldn't be here - it's not a general dumping ground to ask questions about an entry. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 17:59, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
So sue me, man. Just trying to get a job done. --{{victar|talk}} 18:02, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Great, so you won't mind if I mark this as speedily closed and create a new discussion over at the talk page of the PWgmc term to inquire as to Rua's thoughts on this matter (Reconstruction talk:Proto-West Germanic/hą̄hasinu). — Mnemosientje (t · c) 18:09, 28 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
