Gedera or Gadera?[edit]

Does this men Gedera, not Gadera? SemperBlotto (talk) 03:46, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SemperBlotto: Sorry, yes. —JohnC5 03:54, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@SemperBlotto, JohnC5: It can be spelt in many different ways. Γάδαρα (Gádara, Gadara) presumably came from גדרה‎‎ (Gadʾara), whereas Γάδηρα (Gádēra, Gadera) presumably came from גדר (Gader). Then there's the Gedera you mentioned, SB. And on top of that there's the confusion with Gerasa and its variant spellings, as well as the possibly-nonexistent Gergasa (see w:Exorcism of the Gerasene demoniac#Gerasa, Gadara, or Gergesa?). I'm not sure how best to present all this (and I'm not entirely sure I understand it all, for that matter). — I.S.M.E.T.A. 02:57, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure where you got the transcription "gadʾara", but it should be (in scholarly transcription) גְּדֵרָה (gəḏērā) and גָּדֵר (gāḏēr). --WikiTiki89 16:57, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikitiki89: I got it from the first sentence of w:Umm Qais#History of Gadara. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 18:30, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that transcription is a bunch of nonsense. There is plenty of that on Wikipedia. --WikiTiki89 18:43, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikitiki89: My bad. Still, a bunch of different spellings occur, including Γάδαρα (Gádara, Gadara). — I.S.M.E.T.A. 21:40, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
