No capital needed

[edit]

@Saltmarsh, there is no brand or logo or any proper name for διαδίκτυο. If it is ever seen written with a capital, is just because a writer might add emphasis, but this would be a personal or coincidental spelling. I think material should move to διαδίκτυο (diadíktyo) and this one deleted? Thanks ‑‑Sarri.greek  | 11:59, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Sarri.greek Publishers' house styles vary and articles in η Εφημερίδα and η Καθημερινή use both case forms - so after considering emphasis - I have modified the entry rather than deleting it. I hope that this is OK with you. — Saltmarsh🢃 06:53, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Saltmarsh, writing words with capital first letter can be a personal choice for every writer or editing house. Nothing like the authority of Oxford Press. Grammars give a list for the words which MUST get a capital, for some reason. I would put a redirect, because there is no logical reason for it to have a capital, unless it is a title of a book or something. But, it doesn't matter, if you wish to keep it! There is no reason to keep the links or the declension though. SNOWinggg here it is SO cold! ‑‑Sarri.greek  | 07:15, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Sarri.greek Snow - again! - hope it warms up soon!
I think that we should record what we find, not what grammar books tell us that we should find. Maybe because writers see capitalised Internet in English often enough they start spelling διαδίκτυο with a capital as well. An aside: The Saturday Guardian has a column by "Pedanticus" who bewails the misuse of our language - but that is the way it changes even if oldies like him (and me) don't like it! — Saltmarsh🢃 12:33, 22 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
