Turkic cognates[edit]

@Vahagn Petrosyan: Can you verify the spellings of the Turkic cognates I added? I had to reverse-transliterate them from Vasmer's "тат. kandžar", "карач. χindžal", and "калм. χandžāl". Also, I'm not sure that modern Persian is the correct "ultimate" origin, perhaps Old or Middle Persian would be more correct (currently, descendants are listed at خنجر). --WikiTiki89 01:41, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I removed Kalmyk, because it's actually Mongolic and Vasmer was listing it for a different reason. --WikiTiki89 01:44, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
I removed Karachay-Balkar because it is probably spurious. I agree that the modern Persian is probably not the ultimate origin. For discussion see Steblin-Kamenskij, I.M. (1999) Etimologičeskij slovarʹ vaxanskovo jazyka [Etymological Dictionary of the Wakhi Language] (in Russian), Saint Petersburg: Peterburgskoje Vostokovedenije, →ISBN, page 407. --Vahag (talk) 09:41, 19 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
