Bolor toli was wrong on this word

[edit]

We usually use Hiam for the general terms on all salamis and likes but on sausages we mostly use Zaidas. And I was trying to show you on bolor-toli.com but that online dictionary is showing wrongly Hiam as Sausage. Even google translate is showing wrongly. Well until real professional prove this translation likely be stayed here. Orgio89 (talk) 09:44, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Orgio89 Sausage is a more general term in english, salami being a type of sausage. Would you say that хиам is a type of зайдас or other way around or neither?
mongoltoli.mn definition of хиам doesn't mention the curing and drying process that is specific to salami, although it does mention boiling which is not found in all sausages however.
зайдас sounds more like a blood sausage from the mongoltoli definition, while a Russian dictionary translates it as "кровяная колбаса, сардельки, сосиски".
We can explain this nuance through usage notes header, see for example biscuit where such finer distinctions are explained. Crom daba (talk) 12:50, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ok thank you for the explanation. Then Sausage is right match for Hiam. Orgio89 (talk) 13:32, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Orgio89 Would you consider a sausage that has to be grilled (like this) a хиам or a зайдас? Crom daba (talk) 19:04, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Crom daba Yes grilled sausage is great treat. You also like grilled? But from last two years I am largely turning into half vegetarian. Maybe eat meat kind of food once or twice per week now. I was so impressed with your wikitionary Mongol words entries great work!!! Orgio89 (talk) 04:40, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
