Bizarre definition[edit]

@Wikitiki89: Any reason for the bizarre way the definition is written? —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:15, 5 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Metaknowledge: I'm not sure how better to write it, and it doesn't seem too bizarre to me. What I'm trying to get across is that it primarily means the Nile, but if not, primarily a river in Egypt, and if not, a river anywhere else. I should perhaps also add that it should be a substantial river that provides sustenance to the people who live by it. --WikiTiki89 19:18, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Given the semantic development, I would have the sense "Nile" be the main sense, and the rest as a second sense labelled "by extension", or even as subsenses. That would help a lot with readability. Oh, and your ping failed, btw. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:46, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Metaknowledge: Not sure why the ping didn't work. Did it work this time? I'm going to go through all the uses of this word in the Bible to make sure that I have the right notions in my mind of its usage, and then I'll be able to say more. --WikiTiki89 14:44, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The ping still didn't work. Is {{reply to}} broken? I only ever use {{ping}}. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 16:16, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Metaknowledge: The templates don't do anything special. The requirement is that the expanded text contain a link to your user page. I added a section heading in case I was violating the confusing third top-level bullet point at mw:Manual:Echo. Did it work now? --WikiTiki89 18:20, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It still isn't working. Try pinging someone else, using the other template, etc so you can identify where the problem is. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:13, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
