Actually, come to think of it, it was strictly correct, but still a kind of folk etymology in its assumptions along the way. I'm not sure what to call that. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 22:46, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It seems strange to me, too. But I found it in a reliable source, namely Vasmer's Etymological Dictionary (of Russian), see папиро́са (papirósa). And I don't know what you can call that kind of coincidence. --WikiTiki89 22:53, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
