with a present-tense meaning (although normally translated in English with a past tense).

That's more of an observation about English (for example, "if they were here" refers to the present tense, even though "were" is a past tense form). It probably doesn't need to be mentioned here. --WikiTiki89 18:56, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
