What is this?
[edit]I have never heard anyone called แทมพอน. (Perhaps because I am not a woman) More common word I know is ผ้าอนามัยแบบสอด. Octahedron80 (talk) 05:52, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Octahedron80, Alifshinobi, YURi, Miwako Sato: There are many Google hits, including images. Should it be marked as colloquial/rare or just deleted? Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:01, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- A not so perfect reference: [1] (www.thai-language.com seems not so bad for native Thai terms and older Sanskrit/Pali (and other) loanwords. They don't do such a great job on transcribing modern terms) --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:06, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Atitarev: The entry should not be deleted because the Google hits suggest that it is used in Thai. I guess it is used in colloquial Thai. I am not sure about the tone of the second syllable. I myself have not heard Thai speakers, even those living in the US, say it while speaking Thai. --A.S. (talk) 06:11, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

- @Alifshinobi: Thank you. You can add multiple possible readings, since this is colloquial. I'll leave it to you. I've respelled the last syllable as พ็่อน following a large number of similar loanwords. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:15, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Atitarev: Based on this video, it is pronounced แทมป็้อน, so the current แทมพ็่อน (I changed your high tone to the falling tone) is likely the/a pronunciation. --A.S. (talk) 06:17, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Atitarev: The tones in English loanwords are highly (not always) predictable. You can read more about them here. --A.S. (talk) 06:19, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Alifshinobi: Excellent, thanks! Yes, modern loanwords are a pain, so I'd rather consult with native speakers. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:22, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

I'm a woman and I never knew such a word exists 😂. My further opinion doesn't seem necessary anymore, as the discussion is already over. --Miwako Sato (talk) 16:56, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
