@Justinrleung Could you take a look at the Cantonese and Min Nan pronunciations in this entry? I'm not sure how waa4, faa1 and jip6 are used. Wyang (talk) 01:06, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Wyang: Here's what I've found for Cantonese:
- All references I can find say it is read as waa1 when used as 譁.
- 粵音韻彙 gives both waa1 and jip6 for this character, but doesn't to explain its difference. The latter is influenced by 燁 and 曄 (see p. 64 of this).
- Onomatopoeia
- 漢語多功能字庫, 廣州話正音字典, 粵音正讀字彙: waa1.
- 常用字廣州話讀音表, 朗文中文新詞典, 香港小學生中文詞典, 辭淵: waa4.
- 李氏中文字典, 國音粵音新字典 (1992): faa1 (influenced by Mandarin huā; see p. 64 of the link above).
- Interjection
- 廣州話正音字典, 廣州話方言詞典, 廣州話普通話詞典, 廣州話客家話潮汕話與普通話對照詞典, 港式廣州話詞典, 香港話詞典: waa4.
- 粵典 (per hkudict): waa3 (which is what I'd say).
