Not L1 Speaker

[edit]

@Justinrleung Hey! Thanks for your time. This revert [1] is made on the basis that (1) it is not durably archived, (2) it is not from an L1 speaker - and (3) that there are much better quotes that this.

My responses:

(1) Wiktionary is replete with quotations that are not durably archived but are used as an example anyway. Here I was using a news clip from a prominent news agency in Asia. ("In general, editors should add quotations that count toward the attestation requirement for inclusion," [2] (my emphasis)-- this implies there is a role for quotations that do not count toward attestation)

(2) Irrelevant; the word was used in the target language

(3) Irrelevant; there are currently no other quotes- a person interested in this article would be interested in this news clip; it provides more context and interest than a total lack of examples

No need to respond if you don't agree. Keep up the great work! Your work makes this a great website.

@Geographyinitiative: I've added two quotes that would be better for the entry. We would want to prioritize durably archived quotes so that they would count towards attestation. We also want to use L1 rather than L2 because L2 speech is less helpful for people who are trying to learn to speak natively, and L1 is our main target of description for any language (if possible). — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 17:25, 20 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
