@Mnemosientje, I was curious, do you think this word was influenced by แฝฮปฯŒฮบฮฑฯ…ฯƒฯ„ฮฟฯ‚ (holรณkaustos) or was even calqued from that word? โ†โ‚ฐ-โ†’ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 06:37, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Lingo Bingo Dingo Yes 100%, there are a ton of calques from Greek (and some from Latin, such as armahairtei for misericordia) in the Gothic Bible and semantically this is a prime candidate - religious Christian terms especially are often straight-up borrowings (aiwaggeljล, aggelus) or semantic loans and calques like this one. Kรถbler (author of a recent Gotisches Wรถrterbuch) claims it is a calque ("Lรผs" = Lehnรผbersetzung) of แฝฮปฮฟฮบฮฑฯฯ„ฯ‰ฮผฮฑ (holokaรบtลma) specifically. โ€” Mnemosientje (t ยท c) 13:11, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
