@Lingo Bingo Dingo Yes 100%, there are a ton of calques from Greek (and some from Latin, such as armahairtei for misericordia) in the Gothic Bible and semantically this is a prime candidate - religious Christian terms especially are often straight-up borrowings (aiwaggeljō, aggelus) or semantic loans and calques like this one. Köbler (author of a recent Gotisches Wörterbuch) claims it is a calque ("Lüs" = Lehnübersetzung) of ὁλοκαύτωμα (holokaútōma) specifically. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 13:11, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
