Grand total of five words that use these "suffixes." We can't deduce from five stray words that happen to end in -cismo a definitive suffix definition for it. (Or neglect the many -cismo words that don't carry this meaning: tatticismo, agnosticismo, democraticismo, economicismo, and so on). Alternatively, this is the Italian equivalent of the English -cism, which we rightly don't have. Imetsia (talk) 15:51, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
- Delete. We have English iotacism, which is rather unsatisfactorily explained as being from iota + -ism. The form is from Ancient Greek ἰωτακισμός (iōtakismós) (see “ἰωτακισμός”, in Liddell & Scott (1940) A Greek–English Lexicon, Oxford: Clarendon Press) but with a later change of meaning; cf. iotacisme and ἰωτακισμός on the French Wikipedia. The Italian terms are likewise (via (Neo-)Latin) from Greek, so the suffix is not Italian. --Lambiam 20:43, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
