Strictly speaking
[edit]The Algonquins are just a small tribe for which the much larger group was named, so this is probably an incorrect usage. —Soap— 11:59, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- This entry is just an alt form. If your point is true for the "main" form, post it there. Equinox ◑ 12:01, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hmm, maybe I worded it badly. What I mean is that the word Algonquinist shouldnt be used to mean someone who studies the wider language family. It's possible that its such a widespread usage that it isn't really worth fighting against, but i was going to look into this more later on. Algonquianist is the correct term. —Soap— 13:04, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Soap: In actual usage, this is a synonym of Algonquianist. Check the quotations I added. 98.170.164.88 13:46, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you very much. You did, very quickly and very well, what I would have only gotten around to much later. Even to the point of finding someone who's agreeing that it's technically wrong just to show that usage doesnt always follow prescribed rules. —Soap— 16:42, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
