Etymology
[edit]I doubt that it refers back to Greek. I posit more direct:
*pleth₂os, adjectival form of *pel- (“to spread; broad, wide”), c.f. Slavic płaski, placek etc.

- What about all the Romance cognates? Are you saying that Platz is not derived from the same Latin source as Dutch plaats, French place, Italian piazza? —CodeCat 00:05, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Other Uses
