Rfv-sense: "automobile". It's certainly not a usual modern word for a car (for which German has plenty of terms, Auto, Wagen, Pkw, etc.), nor is it listed as having that meaning in Duden. The Deutsches Wörterbuch glosses it as "automobile" ([1]), but who knows what 19th-century Germans understood by that. If it exists at all outside of the dictionary (and German is a WDL, so a mention in a dictionary is not sufficient) I strongly suspect it needs to be tagged {{lb|de|obsolete}}. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 08:05, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
- www.zeno.org/Zeno/0/Suche?q=selbstfahrer&k=Bibliothek could already attest it, and by the German lexica it seems to usually mean "automobile, car". In case of e.g. "Cabcart [..], zweiräderiger einspänniger Selbstfahrer" "Selbstfahrer" could mean more than car, but still could mean the same as "automobile" as "automobile" could have (had) a wider sense. -84.161.20.244 03:12, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
