- Sorry, I was wrong anyway, nothing to do with verrūca. It comes from verrō (“to sweep”). Here's what De Vaan says (verro, page 666): "probably derived from a noun *verruncus < *wrs-on-ko-, which itself presupposes an n-stem *wrs-on- (“who sweeps, wards off”)". --Barytonesis (talk) 17:02, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
