hard or easy?[edit]
I always thought this phrase meant a hard, not easy life. See also http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-its1.htm. —scs 15:12, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Turned out we had the other sense also, at dog’s life. (Gotta love those Unicode apostrophes.) I've moved both senses here, and redirected the other. —scs 17:36, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
life of a dog[edit]
Chambers 1908 has "not to lead the life of a dog" = to lead a life so wretched that even a dog would not be content with it. Equinox ◑ 19:31, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
