It would be worthwhile and interesting to document just how this term migrated from dong to donger. Eclecticology

I wasn't aware that dong existed (but then I'm not a native English speaker). All I can say is that during my extensive travels in Australia I heard the word donger. I have no idea how the former evolved into the latter. D.D.

in australia atleast, a donger is a club you use to club (or dong) a fish on the head to kill it. just google fishing donger to find examples. I don't really know how to make appropriate edits or anything so I'll just leave this here till someone in the know does their thing
