Isn't this an Anglicism?
The Dutch version is "Dat deed een lampje bij mij branden." (lit.: That lit a small lamp/bulb with me). — This unsigned comment was added by 83.80.64.22 (talk).

- @PUC I'm not sure whether it really is an Anglicism (and I generally don't care much about prescription on the subject) but it might well be a calque from the English. To me (een) bel(letje) doen rinkelen feels far more lexicalised and I think it is more common. It can be certainly attested with the figurative meaning by the mid 20th century, but it might be older (I didn't look very hard). With een lampje doen branden I'd say the adverbial phrase with bij X is entirely optional and I suspect that een lampje gaat branden/er gaat een lampje branden is about as common. There is also an intransitive counterpart of (een) bel(letje) doen rinkelen but that one strikes me as far more rare.
