exciting

Two adjective senses and a noun sense. Aren't these just the same thing as the verb sense? --Yair rand (talk) 02:21, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Keep the "producing excitement" sense of the adjective because "exciting" meets recommended criteria for adjectivity, as described in Wiktionary:English adjectives.

Delete the other two: the other adjective sense seems redundant to me. The noun sense follows the standard behavior of -ing forms functioning as nouns. If necessary, the noun could be sent to RfV to see if there are plurals, which some find sufficient to warrant including the noun PoS. DCDuring TALK 03:25, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

A quick Google Books search shows a number of hits for excitings, more than enough to meet CFI, at least. (And one quote by George Herbert has been reprinted enough times to make me almost call it a well-known work.)--Prosfilaes 03:53, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Keep the first adjective sense, per DCDuring: this is very clearly a participial adjective. Delete the noun sense: maybe there's a noun sense (though I doubt it), but this isn't it. No vote on the second adjective sense: the definition certainly sounds like a distinct sense, but it could simply be a poor definition. —Ruakh_TALK 03:48, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Pronunciation

Can someone confirm the transcription with /ɛɡz/, and order the pronunciations according to their frequency? — Ungoliant ^(falai) 03:28, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

I haven't heard that myself, but I hesitate to change this because the initial vowel seems off as well — it may be [ɛ] in careful speech, but it's usually closer to a schwa (or do we treat it as [ɨ]?). Time to summon @Mahagaja. —Μετάknowledge^{discuss/deeds} 03:34, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
