Talk:fysikaalinen

It would be interesting to see if anyone could explain the difference between fysikaalinen and fyysinen. I as a native speaker of Finnish know the difference, but I don't think I can explain it well enough so that I would myself edit the pages. Currently, both pages translate the terms to physical without specifying that the two Finnish terms are not completely interchangeable. 93.106.212.202 13:34, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

I don't think it's clear to most Finns either. Fysikaalinen refers to physics the science and fyysinen refers to the material world, especially the body. But there's a snake in this paradise, too: fysikaalinen hoito ("physical therapy, physiotherapy"). I think that in a perfect world it should be called fyysinen hoito. It's good that fysioterapia seems to be gradually replacing this mongrel of a term! It's probably originally a mere uninformed translation.
