How large is a germ anyway? Larger than a smidgen but smaller than a pinch? Rather than referring to the size, the figurative uses I see mainly refer to something being in its early form, not yet developed. The germinal idea is practically synonymous with the germ of the idea.  --Lambiam 03:24, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
