Lungs and lights[edit]

If lights means "lungs", how can he say "lungs and lights"?? This is the etymology I've always heard for "punch your lights out", but now I'm suspicious. Soap 03:19, 14 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Since the lungs were called "lights" because they are light organs. It's possible that in Spenser's day the term encompassed other light organs, or he's just being redundant. - -sche (discuss) 05:00, 14 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
