Rfv-sense. Same as #fossettid above, it's not quite a synonym. (I think a synonym has to have the same meaning, whereas in this case metafossettid refers to the same general kind of feature, but in a different location).

It's definitely a depression in a lower tooth, but I'm not even sure if it's associated with the metaconid or not (as the name seems to 'obviously' suggest) - e.g. see this diagram that has the two far apart. This paper defines metaflexid (which should be similar to metafossettid): "Therefore, the flexid in front of the entoconid is here called entoflexid, and not metaflexid, and the flexid in front of the metaconid is here called metaflexid, and not paraflexid." But this seems to imply there is another older system of dental nomenclature, using the same words for different objects. How confusing. 70.172.194.25 01:04, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have cited the term (on the citations page), but I don't know enough about paleodentistry to help out with the question of definition. I tried to include enough information in the cites so that someone who knows more about the field than I do can make a decent judgement. Kiwima (talk) 22:14, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
