LA Woman[edit]

How can LA Woman (which came out in 1971) be the origin of the word Mojo when Muddy Waters and Ann Cole were using in it the late 1950s? The origin in from the Creole and related to magic charms.

I've removed the bit about the song. It didn't seem like the ultimate origin of the word. (I suppose it might have popularised it in English...?) Equinox 11:15, 8 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Illegal drug" sense[edit]

Some sources are more specific:

  • Green's Newspeak (1984) says it's specifically morphine.
  • Crowley's Liverpool English Dictionary says it's methylated spirits used for drinking or lacing drink.

Also a thingy/unspecified object?[edit]

Thorne's slang dictionary defines it as "any un-named object; thingummy", additionally noting that it can refer to drugs or genitalia. Equinox 13:19, 3 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
