Etymology[edit]

OED: "The word apparently became obsolete at the end of the Old English period and was re-formed in the late 19th cent." OE verb was "oferwintran". So we should probably just say over- + winter here. DTLHS (talk) 16:57, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
