Dutch pronunciation[edit]

@Lingo Bingo Dingo, Mnemosientje, Lambiam I'm inclined to think that this is /ˌpɔtˈpuri/, with a very rare occurrence of short /u/ before /r/. The audio recording seems to confirm this. What do you think? Also, is the primary stress usually on the second syllable (as it seems to be for me) or on the first? —Rua (mew) 14:55, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are right about /u/ being short. I have heard this pronounced with rather variable stress, but the dictionaries I checked indicated stress on either the initial or the ultimate syllable. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 15:53, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I hear /ˈpɔt.pu.ri/, with stress on the first syllable (and no secondary stress on the second one). It even tends to [ˈpɔ.pːə.ri]. See also my comment at Talk:literatuur.  --Lambiam 21:33, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
