Sports player[edit]

What about when a pro player joins into an "amateur" sports game, and is called a "ringer"... — This unsigned comment was added by 140.233.136.242 (talk) at 19:54, September 20, 2005‎.

I propose changing the fourth definition to match the one listed on the wikipedia disambiguation page "A superior contestant or specialist who is clandestinely brought into an event or team to bolster its capabilities." — This unsigned comment was added by Nobodyofnaught (talkcontribs) at 20:52, November 7, 2007.

Telephone[edit]

I think the part of a telephone that produces the ring sound is called a ringer (see e.g. trimphone definition). How can we define this accurately? Equinox 10:50, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Like "dial", the word is now a relic of bygone technology. My first draft: "Any device or system that signals that a telephone call is incoming." DCDuring TALK 11:33, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
