I agree. In fact I'm sure I hear it used as an ungendered form of "boyfriend"/"girlfriend" (i.e., one might ask someone if they have a significant other, instead of assuming whether they'd be the type to have a boyfriend or girlfriend). —Muke Tever 17:39, 19 May 2004 (UTC)Reply
