Why "doctors"?[edit]

Is it from the band Spin Doctors, or earlier? Equinox 15:18, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

The first written records of the phrase "spin doctors" originate in the early 1980s in reference to Ronald Reagan's public-relations people. In particular, a segment from The New York Times in 1984 used this phrase in reference to people who would say positive things to the press. The rock band gave themselves this name in the late 1980s, so the term does not come from the band. I do not know the story behind why the band chose this name, but as it was a new term at the time, I half-suspect that someone in the band saw the phrase and misunderstood it to mean a disc jockey, which is also what I thought the term meant when I first saw it. 2001:16B8:686D:C100:D06F:DABC:94A2:4322 00:20, 30 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
