Usage note[edit]

(unstressed) /ðɚ/

The situtations in which they're is stressed and unstressed merits a usage note JMGN (talk) 13:20, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

It's always /ðɛɚ/ for me, and I'd have assumed that's what other people say too, but in rapid speech it would be hard to tell the difference between that and just /ðɚ/. I cant answer your question other than to say that for at least some people there are no positions with the reduced pronunciation. Soap 20:15, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
For me, it is /ðeɪɚ/ when stressed.
When unstessed, I would transcribe it as /ðɛə̯(ɹ)/ ~ /ðɪə̯(ɹ)/. But perhaps I would be considered to be one of the people for which "there are no positions with the reduced pronunciation," because no /ðɚ/ pronunciation comes into play for me. Tharthan (talk) 01:10, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
