This is interesting; before looking at the entry, I would've anticipated a definition along the lines of "(pertaining to) a trans person who is butch" e.g. a butch transbian (AMAB), analogous to transfem, transmasc. The citations, on the other hand, do seem consistent with the AFAB definition. In this thesis too someone says "In this thesis, I examine memoirs and personal essays that define and defy boundaries between “butch" and “transmasculine" subjectivity –– and investigate my own queer experience in the process –– in order to counter the myth of an irreparable trans/butch divide. Deemed by some to be “border wars,” conflicts between transness and butchness are emblematic of the contested (hi)stories on which the identities are founded[...]". Perhaps the other definition also exists; if you can find examples (that meet WT:CFI), it can be added. - -sche (discuss) 00:57, 6 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I expected this term referred to butch lesbian trans women as well when I set out to attest it. I was surprised to discover that it has a long history as a term referring to AFAB people whose identity/presentation falls in between butch and transmasculine. This sense seems to cover a broad range of AFAB people (some trans men, some cis women, some non-binary or genderqueer) and so I tried to make the defintion as inclusive as possible.
I couldn't find CFI-compliant cites to attest the "butch lesbian trans women" sense at the time. But CFI has since been modified to allow for a broader range of online sources to be used to attest terms. The "butch lesbian trans women" sense is likely attestible through Twitter or Reddit. That said my understanding is that compound constructions like transwomen have fallen out of favour and so it might take some digging. WordyAndNerdy (talk) 09:09, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
