Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |edition= – the edition of Garner’s cited, from |edition=1st to |edition=5th. If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the latest (5th) edition.
  • |1= or |entry= – the entry (headword or lemma) in Garner’s cited. If this parameter is omitted, the template uses the Wiktionary page name.
  • |pos=, or |part of speech= – the part of speech of the entry (if it has one). By default, the template italicizes the value assigned to the parameter and adds a full stop (period) to the end. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, specify |noformat=1.
  • |page= or |pages= – the page(s) of Garner’s on which the entry appears. When citing a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to.
  • |column= or |columns= – the column number(s) of Garner’s on which the entry appears.
  • |passage= or |text= – a passage cited from the source.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage cited.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.
