“R:OED2” in John A. Simpson and Edward S. C. Weiner, editors, The Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd edition, Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1989, ↑ISBN.

This template can be used in the "References" and "Further reading" sections of an entry, or on talk pages, to provide a citation to the 2nd edition of the Oxford English Dictionary (1989).

The template takes the following optional parameters:

  • |1= or |entry= – the entry in the Dictionary cited. If not specified, the name of the Wiktionary entry is used.
  • |2= or |volume= – the volume of the Dictionary in which the entry appears.
  • |3=, |page= or |pages= – the page(s) of the Dictionary on which the entry appears. If citing a range of pages, separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
  • |column= or |columns= – the column number(s) of the Dictionary on which the entry appears.
  • |4= or |passage= – a passage quoted from the Dictionary.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.
