Usage
[edit]The templates {{R:SOED}}, {{R:SOED3}}, {{R:SOED5}}, and {{R:SOED6}} can be used in the "References" and "Further reading" sections of an entry, or on talk pages, to provide a citation to the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th editions of the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary (2 volumes). {{R:SOED3}}, {{R:SOED5}}, and {{R:SOED6}} cite the third, fifth, and sixth editions respectively.
Parameters
[edit]The template takes the following parameters:
|1=or|entry=– the entry in the Dictionary cited. If not specified, the name of the Wiktionary entry is used.|edition=– mandatory in some cases: if this parameter is not specified, the template assumes that the 1st edition of the Dictionary (1933) is being cited. To specify a different edition, type one of the following:- 3rd edition (1973) – 3rd
- 5th edition (2002) – 5th
- 6th edition (2007) – 6th
- Further editions of the Dictionary can be added to the template. For assistance with this, leave a message on the talk page or at "Wiktionary:Grease pit".
|2=or|volume=– the volume of the Dictionary cited in Roman numerals: either|volume=Ior|volume=II.|3=,|page=or|pages=– the page(s) of the Dictionary on which the entry appears. If citing a range of pages, separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this:|pages=110–111.|column=or|columns=– the column number(s) of the Dictionary cited. If using|columns=to cite a range of columns, separate the first and last column numbers of the range with an en dash.|4=,|text=, or|passage=– a passage quoted from the Dictionary.|nodot=– by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use|nodot=1or|nodot=yes.
