Simple template intended for inclusion in usage note sections, explaining how 訓読み (kun'yomi) terms compare to 音読み (on'yomi) terms. Useful when the headword can be read using either on'yomi or kun'yomi.

Generally speaking, terms read using the kun'yomi pronunciation are perceived as more casual and less formal than terms using the on'yomi, much as terms in English from Anglo-Saxon roots are perceived as less formal than synonyms from Latinate roots.
