Deletion debate[edit]

The following information has failed Wiktionary's deletion process.

It should not be re-entered without careful consideration.

Per WT:GP#infl form, all this actually does is what infl does, with the keystrokes in a different order. Instead of {{infl form|en|verb}} you can use {{infl|en|verb form}} with precisely the same number of keystrokes, just in a different order. Mglovesfun (talk) 11:39, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Maybe you're surprised but I agree. I improved the template and started using without really thinking it through, and now it seems useless to me too. However, I think the real problem is that many bots and scripts still routinely skip using {{infl}} for form-of entries. Part of my reason for using this template was to encourage using an inflection template rather than '''pagename''', even if no additional inflection information is needed. —CodeCat 12:06, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not surprised actually, you seem like a level-headed chap. There's a French proverb that says il n'y a que les imbéciles qui ne changent pas d'avis (only imbeciles never change their minds). Mglovesfun (talk) 12:56, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, thank you I guess, it does seem to apply to me a lot lately. But I'm not a chap. :P —CodeCat 13:58, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Delete, per Mg. Definitely worthless given that {{infl}} is already there. I'd delete it right now but damn, there's a shitload of pages using it. :/ On another note, I wonder, Mg, if the English equivalent of that also merits an entry. I've heard something like "smart people are allowed to change their minds" before. Seems a bit SoP but proverbs kinda are sometimes right? 50 Xylophone Players talk 22:13, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry for all the entries, those are my fault...
And about the phrase, it's not really SoP, because it's generally not said to state the fact that smart people are allowed to change their minds. Rather, the intention is to make the listener feel more comfortable with the idea that they did something stupid in the past. —CodeCat 22:16, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
About the entries: well yeah don't worry, (deprecated template usage) shit happens.
Regarding the phrase: yeah that's true. 50 Xylophone Players talk 23:03, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Note: There are about 16,000 entries that use this template. Whoever deletes it will need to fix them. SemperBlotto 10:39, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've marked it as deprecated per the discussion (limited as it is). Of the 16000, all but 251 used {{infl form|ca|verb}} which I have converted using MglovesfunBot to {{infl|ca|verb form}} per WT:GP#Template:infl form. The remaining 251 will need some thought, however, they seem to be entirely Latin entries. I'll see if I can come p with a bit of Regexp to fix them.
