What's the point of this? —CodeCat 18:01, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

After your latest edits on top2, mid2, and bottom2, the rendering of the columns in the Synonyms section of Navajo roots looked jagged and scrambled. The former format had smaller font, and I was myself balancing the terms among right and left depending on groups of meanings, but after your changes, the font got bigger resulting in a weird rendering (at least on my screen), the white vertical separator disappeared (which with the bigger font made left column glued to the rightside one, giving the impression that the text on the left side was continuing on the right side ), and the autobalancing was cutting the groups of synonyms in an unnatural fashion, including the meaning header above each synonym group.
In the other discussion about roots, you said it was OK to have custom tables in some sections. Can't we have a custom Navajo synonym table too? I can change the name if you think "nv-top2" is too reminiscent of former "top2" (something like "nv-syn-header"). Julien Daux (talk) 21:25, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
The problem is more that the template does nothing specific to Navajo, nor does it do anything not already covered by existing templates. Can you show an entry that has the problems you describe? —CodeCat 21:27, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=-BAAL&oldid=42386276 , https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=-JÉÉʼ&oldid=42600875 , https://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=-KÉÉZ&oldid=42562789 ... among others. Alignments are off, columns are cut, and the font being bigger doesn't fit narrower screens. I liked the smaller font (in par with the other tables on the same page) and the vertical white separator. I see no difference in font size, and I don't think we should be making the font smaller anyway. But I see what you mean with the columns being off: because they autobalance, they don't neatly split where the headers are. I *think* there is a solution for this, but I'd have to look into it. Anyone who knows how columns work in CSS is invited to offer advice. —CodeCat 21:51, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
I found https://www.w3.org/TR/css3-multicol/#column-breaks but I'm not quite sure how they would best be used in a situation like this. —CodeCat 21:56, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
