It uses {{head}} because I'm too intimidated by template syntax to rewrite it using "bare code", if you know what I mean. If you are willing and able to rewrite {{ga-noun}} so it doesn't call {{head}} but does everything itself, that would be great. {{ga-verb}} has the same problem when the verbal noun is identical to the lemma.
