Etymology[edit]
First attested as ingaddingenheim around the first half of the 10th century. Compound of Old Frisian Ingald (“a personal name”) and heem (“home, settlement”). The initial T- is the result of the preposition te (“at”) being contracted into the toponym. Compare Taarlo, Tolbert and Tubbergen.
