Borrowed from Spanish Totonicapán, from a Nahuan language (equivalent to Pipil tutūnik (hot) + āpan (river)); calqued from K'iche' Chuwiʼ Meqʼinaʼ (above the hot water) or Kaqchikel Chimekʼenyaʼ (place of hot water).
