fonts in the heading

[edit]

Fonts in the page heading itself are a tricky thing. Currently things are set up so that if there is a Chinese entry on the page, the h1 will be forced to use Chinese fonts. We haven't done this with Japanese. I believe it is because then telling the page to use Japanese fonts in the h1 will override commands to use the Chinese fonts. (@Erutuon, do you you remember? I think you added this functionality.)

I would like to suggest using Stylish or signing up and adding personal CSS.

At any rate, I can't agree with manually changing DISPLAYTITLE on individual pages using inline CSS. —Suzukaze-c 21:48, 30 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Suzukaze-c: That's correct, though it's complicated. The display title is added by Module:headword, and it uses the script code in the first of the heads supplied to the full_headword function. If the page has multiple headword lines (for instance, for Translingual, Chinese, Japanese, Korean), a display title may be given more than once, and if there were conflicts (i.e., multiple headwords were adding display titles with different script codes), the last display title would win out, but the page parser would display an error message in preview mode. I worked around this problem by only allowing display titles for scripts that won't conflict with others. For instance, Jpan (Japanese) and Hani (Han) are in conflict because the Japanese headword on a Han character page (such as ) is formatted as Jpan (Japanese), while the Chinese and other headwords are formatted as Hani. So Jpan can't automatically add a display title. I decided to let Hani add a display title instead. But I added a special case so that Jpan gets to have a display title if the title contains hiragana or katakana, which are not found in Hani (for instance, アーク放電).
I do have a JavaScript script that adds titles using another script that resolves these conflicts.
Actually it just occurred to me that I can fix the display title-adding by using a data module. — Eru·tuon 23:02, 30 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
