I think we shouldn't put the PIE root template for the terms using the suffix, just the suffix page itself. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 05:17, 8 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Please don't add PIE root categories for uncertain etymologies. Only use it for etymologies that are well supported. —CodeCat 12:39, 8 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please keep things straight

A term may be borrowed, and it may be derived from a proto-language, but don't say it's borrowed from the proto-language unless it was borrowed directly from the actual speakers of the proto-language, and not from some daughter language. Chuck Entz (talk) 05:13, 4 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

سردار sardaar

[edit]

sardār is probably a borrowing from a Middle Iranian language in which rd -> l sound change did not occure, such as Parthian. The genuine Persian development from Middle Persian is سالار salār, as mentioned in the Etymology section. The etymolog you provided sar "head" + -dār "owner" doesn't really make sense. --Z 14:00, 30 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up. However, this being such a specific issue (with no sources or references involved in either side of the argument), I would have appreciated this explanation in the initial revert summary. 73.206.73.84 03:04, 2 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
