• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
• Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
• Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
• If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
• If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
• Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
• You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Thank you for all the links! They will be useful. But I have a question. How do I put links from another sites on my user page? I tried (to justify a correction I'm currently making) but the spam filter blocked them. Thank you in advance (I might be busy later and don't reply or see the answer). The discord Thalyson gave you is one for the entire Wiktionary community. There's another one — which I believe might be of more interest to you — where we're hosting discussions about Old Galician-Portuguese; since we (Thalyson, me, Strid, you and Froaringus) are the only OGP editors, it's easier to talk about it 'in real time' as opposed to Wiktionary's forum-esque manner, especially since the language's structure is, like, seriously lacking currently — there are so many aspects that need discussing and, while in a Discord group we could solve all of them in a single day should everyone be there, on Wiktionary it'd take multiple different discussion topics...

So for these and a few other reasons (todos falamos português!), I think it'd actually be easier for you too if you were there!

Latin -cŭl-

Hi Amanyn,

The loss of Latin ŭ in this context is essentially regular in the evolution to Romance; ovicula and peduculus are pretty typical cases.

We don't need to make reconstructions for regular sound changes; our etymology for Spanish hijo for instance doesn't say "from a Vulgar Latin *filyu, from Latin fīlium", as it is unnecessary. Nicodene (talk) 21:29, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

If it's sound-changes you're interested in, I highly recommend Lausberg's classic monograph. It's in German, but a Spanish translation is available for free on LibGen (search for "Lausberg Lingüística Románica fonética"). Nicodene (talk) 19:41, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
