None

[edit]

I think your usage note is a little off...isn't none supposed to be conjucated with a plural in all other cases? E.g. None were qualified? Singular would only be Not one was qualified right? --Connel MacKenzie 00:01, 30 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

P.S. I hadn't even noticed you are a newcomer, as your contributions are excellent. Thank you! --Connel MacKenzie 00:05, 30 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm fairly sure it can be both ([1], [2], [3]). At any rate, it's certainly treated as a plural more often if not only because it tends to sounds more "natural".

You're welcome. And thank you for the links. But they seem to support what I was saying - it technically can be sigular, but in practice never is. One style writer prescribed against the plural, then after being overwhelmed with protests retracted his prescription. Anyhow, keep up the great contributions.
Oh, also, if you could dig up some citations for dookie it would give it a much better chance at survival.
Lastly, I must mention how neat it is to meet a Colin. The names Connel and Colin I believe both trace back to Conan, in the mighty warrior sense. Either varient is rare, so um, hello! --Connel MacKenzie 19:04, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
