Thank you for your efforts in working to bring in more of the 1913 Webster material. It's a huge job but their work can be very good as a base to build from. Would it be too much to ask that when you do this you import the whole article. The etymologies and the quotations are a very important part of the research that went into that dictionary. Thank you. See how I have added back that material at avert. Eclecticology 08:02, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Also, please add {{webster}} at the top of these entries, to let everyone know that the definitions are probably outdated, quaint, nearly unreadable, incomplete and otherwise less than useful. OK, that's a little harsh. Nonetheless, it seems very useful to mark Webster-derived material as such. I'm not greatly concerned about the actual content of template:webster, so long as it's used where needed. -dmh 20:45, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Will do -- I didn't realize there was such a template. Curtis 20:49, 10 Nov 2004
First, thanks very much for taking that on board.
The template is very recent. I created it in the heat of the moment, then softened the tone somewhat. I note that you are doing quite a bit more than simply mechanically importing Webster 1913. I don't see any need to include the template in something that has been modernized, or is just a pointer from a derived form to the base (e.g. baalist). In other words, please feel free to use your judgement. I had the template in mind mostly for entries like slight, which are blatantly old and dusty, not having been manually checked at all. -dmh 05:52, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Encyclopedic entries[edit]

Hi Curtis,

Please remember that Wiktionary is a dictionary, not an encyclopedia. Entries such as Edmund Spenser belong in Wikipedia. Encyclopedic entries are routinely deleted by Wiktionary sysops.

Hey there Curtis,

If you are 'watching' your words, you may notice that I'm having a lot of fun editing your pages.

Just simple edits like posting the actual spelling under its usage and bolding each use of the word on the page. Just simple stuff. You could do it yourself and save some time. (no response necessary, but if you do, please use User talk:HiFlyer so I don't have to monitor your page, here. Have fun, bud! And I hope you edit "my" entries as well. Everybody else does ;-)) --HiFlyer 00:36, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Capitalization[edit]

These latest words are nouns, not proper nouns. They should not be Capitalized - I shall move them. SemperBlotto 14:37, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry 'bout that -- it's early here and I was just copying/pasting without paying attention. I'll drink some coffee now.... ;O) Curtis 14:40, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvios[edit]

Do not enter copyright violations. When you copy Webster's New Unabridged Dictionary verbatim, do not attribute Webster's 1913. --Connel MacKenzie 23:32, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
