• Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.

• Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
• If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
• If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.

Hello, Andrew!

Thank you for sending me a message. I am very new to editing anything related to Wikipedia, but I've become obsessed and I now spend hours of nearly every day on Wiktionary. I love finding and adding quotations in particular, as doing so exposes me to all sorts of very cool, often very old writings. I hope I haven't made too many mistakes in my enthusiasm.

I wasn't sure whether that sense of eight should go under "noun" or "numeral", so thank you for editing that. Now that you mention it, I will definitely go ahead and add corresponding senses (and quotations, of course) to the other numbers. It will be my personal project, if no one else gets to it first.

You're very welcome. Adding quotations, especially from old sources, is a very valuable use of your time, so thank you! Let me know if you have any further questions, either here or on my talk page. I took a look through some of your recent contributions. They look very good! While I'm here, I'll mention a couple little nitpicks, however:

1. For etymologies, it's preferred to use templates, as this creates appropriate links, maintains consistent formatting, and automatically adds the word to the appropriate categories. See my edit at Shuniah, where I added the template {{bor}}, with the language code "en" for English (to indicate the language of the entry) and the language code "oj" for Ojibwe (to indicate the language of the source word). I found the latter code by going to the entry for Ojibwe and looking at the "Further Reading" section to see what language code was listed.

2. When adding quotes/usexes with translations, not only the headword of the entry should be bold, but also (if possible) the translation, because it helps to see the correspondence between the quote and the translation and also adds clarity in cases where the translation is less straightforward. See what I did at zhooniyaa.

And I should mention, keep an eye on templates in general. You're doing a great job with the quotes, but also keep an eye on things like translations, labels, etc. Templates are a steep learning curve, but once you get used to them, they make everyone's lives easier and make Wiktionary look more professional.
