Wiktionary aims to describe all words of all languages using definitions and descriptions in English. It is a collaborative project to produce a free-content multilingual dictionary.

  1. English Wiktionary should have entries for all words of all foreign natural languages. The definitions and descriptions should be given in English. Title should be in the foreign script.
    • Entry layout for foreign terms is identical except that it should not have "Translations" sections, as they are kept at the corresponding language's Wiktionary.
  2. Foreign translations of English words should be added to the translations section of English entries.

Across different Wiktionaries all the basic entry contents other than definitions/glosses remain identical for any particular word lemma entry. i.e., IPA, sound, lexical category, grammatical forms, synonyms, antonyms, etym, images, etc. all are same and only the definition/gloss needs specific translation. Wikidata:Lexicographical data project is being developed to provide structured database support for Wiktionaries, and will aid in making foreign word entries available across different language Wiktionaries.
